The plot follows (Dustin Clare), a gladiator so skilled he fights without a helmet, as the Champion of Capua. Five years before Spartacus arrives, the ludus is owned by Titus Batiatus (father of the more famous Quintus). However, the ambitious Quintus (John Hannah) is desperate to earn the "good name" of his house.
