Instead of "immediate-use" pickups, allow players to stock powerups to encourage exploration and backtracking.

Nightmare Sphere 0 has no enemies—not yet. The horror is ontological. You (the player / reader / observer) are not inside the sphere. You are the sphere's first awareness. Every thought you have begins to crystalize into geometry inside it. Fear becomes a corridor. Anxiety becomes a locked door.
