The standard (equivalent to ISO 4755:1983 ) specifies the required form and dimensions for thread undercuts (Italian: gole di scarico ) on externally threaded fasteners like bolts and screws. These undercuts are used to provide clearance for a mating part (such as a plug or sealing element) to sit flush against a shoulder when the thread cannot be run all the way to the end.
