The film follows (Vikram), a man with the intellectual capacity of a five-year-old. After his wife dies during childbirth, he raises his daughter, Nila (Sara Arjun), in the peaceful hills of Ooty.

"Maa… baap… beti… yeh teen shabd nahi, teen duniya hain." (Mother, father, daughter… these are not three words, but three worlds.)

The plot is loosely inspired by the Hollywood film I Am Sam (2001), but Deiva Thirumagal adds its own unique Indian emotional flavor.

: The child actress who played Nila won hearts for her natural and moving performance, which was central to the film's "magic".

: Vikram's portrayal was critically acclaimed and won him the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor Emotional Family Drama

: The film features strong performances by Anushka Shetty as a sympathetic lawyer and Amala Paul.
