The village school's headmaster, (Sanjay Mishra), is initially sympathetic but feels powerless against the influence of the school's owner, the corrupt politician Chaube . Eventually, Harishankar takes a stand and arranges a sports event where Guthlee is given a chance to win a scholarship through a race—despite Chaube's attempts to sabotage him with ill-fitting shoes and a disadvantageous starting position.
